1.1 How do I order my party products from Light a Lantern?
You can order your party supplies using our secure online payment facility. Alternatively call us on 07717 872 229 and we will be more than happy to take your payment and delivery details over the phone.
1.2 What is the cost of delivery of my party supplies?
We have different delivery options available according to how urgent your order is. Our standard UK delivery costs £4.95, however faster options are more expensive. To read full details on our postage charges click here.
1.3 How long before I receive my order from Light a Lantern?
We have different delivery options available according to how urgent your order is including a next day delivery option. To view these options and find out exactly when you will receive your parcel click here.
1.4 If I place an order today when will I receive it?
If you place your order before 11am on a working day we will dispatch your order on the same day using the delivery method you have selected. If you place your order after 11am, over the weekend or on a bank holiday it will be dispatched the next working day. To read more about our delivery options please click here.
1.5 Do you offer a Saturday delivery service?
This service is currently unavailable.
1.6 Can I track my order from Light a Lantern?
We can track all orders shipped within the UK by courier and all orders to destinations in Europe or to the rest of the world. If applicable, your tracking number will be sent to the email address provided when placing the order as soon as the order has shipped.
1.7 Can I cancel my order from Light a Lantern?
Once you have placed an order with us it will be processed as quickly as possible and dispatched to you, so if you change your mind and wish to cancel your order for any reason please contact us as soon as you can. Once the order has left our warehouse we cannot cancel your order and you will have to return it back to us at your own cost.
1.8 Can I return my order from Light a Lantern?
Yes, we want you to be happy with everything you buy from us. If you are not completely satisfied with any of the products you purchase then as long as they are un-used and in their original packaging you can return them to us for a refund within 15 days. When returning any item to us please state the reason for the return and include your name, address, contact telephone number and order reference number.
1.9 Do I have to pay for returning my order from Light a Lantern?
We will refund the returns postage for faulty/ damaged or incorrect products, however you will be responsible for the cost of returning unwanted goods.
1.10 Can I add to my order once it has been placed?
Unfortunately not, as the orders are processed immediately and passed onto our warehouse for despatch. If you wish to purchase extra items you will need to place a new order.
1.11 Do you have a shop that I can buy paper lanterns, illoom balloons, candles and other party supplies from?
Unfortunately we do not have a physical shop, but we do distribute to a number of major retailers nationwide.
1.12 Do you offer discounts on large order quantities of paper lanterns, illoom balloons, candles and other party supplies?
We already offer very competitive prices on our website, however we would be more than happy to negotiate a discount on larger orders. Please contact diana@tickle-me.co.uk if you wish to buy our products in bulk.
2. SKY LANTERNS QUESTIONS
2.1 Are your Chinese sky lanterns easy to release yourself?
Yes, they come in a flat packed box, ready to be ignited and released. There is no need to add additional fuel or an accelerant before lighting the lantern wick. All Light a Lantern sky lantern boxes contain release and safety instructions. Sky lanterns are simple to release and do not require the use of any special tools, just a little safety sense! 2.2 Do your flying lanterns contain wire?
All of our flying sky lanterns are wire free and contain a non-flammable fiberglass string.
2.3 What are your glowing sky lanterns made of?
Light a Lantern glowing sky lanterns are made of non-flammable bio-degradable paper, a bamboo rim, non-flammable fiberglass string and a wick.
2.4 How big are sky lanterns?
Light a Lantern sky lanterns stand around 90cm tall.
2.5 How do I calculate how many sky lanterns I may need or want at my wedding?
We recommend using 1 sky lantern per 2 guests for safety reasons and ease of handling, so if you have 60 guests you will need a maximum of 30 sky lanterns.
3. ILLOOM BALLOONS
3.1 Are illoom balloons safe for children?
Yes the illooms have passed all child safety standard tests – Internationally. The minimum age for use is 36 months.
3.2 How do “glow in the dark” illoom balloons work?
Simply pull the tab out and inflate up to 9 inches like a normal balloon. Click here to see more details.
3.3 How long does the LED light inside the illoom balloons last?
Your illoom balloon will stay lit for 15 hours.
3.4 Can I inflate illoom balloons with helium?
You can, however helium is not recommended with illooms as the size (9” inflation) will not keep the balloon afloat due to the weight of the integral LED unit.

4.1 Is it easy to hang the paper lanterns?
Hanging lanterns arrive flat and individually packaged with a wire frame. Simply open up the hanging lantern and insert the wire frame to give it shape. The wire frame has a ’C’ shaped hook at the top that enables you to suspend the lantern from a wedding marquee frame, wooden beam, or ceiling.
4.2 Can I illuminate my hanging lanterns?
We offer a range of individual battery powered LED lights that can be hung inside our hanging lanterns. Each battery powered LED light comes on a length of cord or a key chain allowing you to suspend the LED light inside the hanging lanterns from the ‘C’ shaped hook.
Hanging lanterns can also be hung from a standard household ceiling light, simply weave the cable through the ‘C’ shaped hook at the top of the Chinese lantern.
4.3 Can I use hanging lanterns and LED light units outside?
Our paper hanging lanterns are suitable for use outside in good weather. It must be noted that prolonged use of hanging lanterns in the sun may lead to discolouration of the lantern.
Floralytes (individual LED lights) are completely submersible in water so perfect for use outside regardless of the weather and last 36-48 hours when used in water!
4.4 Can I use my hanging paper lanterns as table decorations?
The design of our hanging lanterns means that the wire frame that gives them shape pokes out of the bottom and top of the hanging lantern slightly. This means that the hanging lantern would tip to one side if placed on a table of other flat surface.
4.5 Are hanging lanterns safe?
Hanging lanterns are indeed safe and have been certified to comply with the BS EN 60598 safety directive.
We have selected LED lights to use with our paper and nylon hanging lanterns, as they do not emit any heat.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that the selected light bulb does not exceed that maximum rating of either the lantern or the lamp/light fitting which the lantern is fitted to. The light bulb MUST be positioned in the middle of the lanterns, and the lantern should be at least 6.5” (16.5cm) from the ceiling.
4.6 How do I calculate how many hanging lanterns I may need or want at my wedding venue?
The number of hanging lanterns you may want or need depends entirely on the look you are trying to create and also may be determined by budget or your party/wedding venue. Please see our photo gallery for inspiration.
4.7 Can I re-use my hanging lanterns?
Chinese hanging lanterns can be re-used time and time again, just open, assemble and disassemble them carefully.
4.8 What should I use to hang my Chinese lanterns?
Our hanging lanterns really are very light so we suggest something as simple as a drawing pin and fishing line, coloured ribbon or even household string to hang your Chinese lanterns.
4.9 How do I suspend paper Chinese lanterns in a wedding marquee that has a lining?
Wedding marquees can be erected with or without lining to cover the ceiling framework. If you want to suspend paper lanterns inside a marquee with a lining do not panic – you can still use our lanterns.
The lining used in wedding marquees comes in small strips commonly 3m in width, the individual strips are joined together using Velcro or something similar, thus providing seams in the lining where you will be able to hang your lanterns. It may restrict the design and the number of hanging lanterns you can have but your wedding marquee company will be able to advise and assist you.
5.1 Is it easy to hang the tissue pompoms?
Tissue pom poms or tissue flower balls as they are also known arrive flat in packets of 4. Each tissue flower ball comes on a length of white, satin ribbon to enable you to hang your tissue pom-pom once it has been ‘fluffed’. Fluffing takes 3-4 minutes per tissue pompom and each packet contains full instructions with photographs. We even have a video demonstration to show you how to fluff your tissue pom poms. 5.2 How big are tissue pom-poms?
Tissue pom-poms, tissue flower balls as they are also commonly known are 15” in diameter when fully ‘fluffed’. When ordering a packet of tissue pom-poms they will arrive flat and 15” in length.
6.1 Can I re-use my paper candle lanterns?
Candle lanterns are made of non-flammable tissue paper. Therefore if it has been raining or it has been damp outside most likely they will fall apart and you will not be able to reuse them. If you used the candle lanterns in good weather and packed them away carefully you should be able to use them again if you wanted to.
6.2 Can candle luminaries cause fire?
No, if you use candle luminaries according to our safety instructions and secure them with gravel or sand at the bottom to prevent from being tipped over. Candle lanterns are made of flame-retardant paper that cannot burst in flames.
6.3 How big are candle bags?
Candle bags stand 26cm tall.
7.1 How big are paper water lanterns?
Each water lantern is 11cm x 11cm x 11cm when assembled.
7.2 Where can I use water lanterns?
It is ideal to use floating paper lanterns in the swimming pool or a pond and, perhaps, a lake in good weather. We do not advise using floating lanterns in the sea is it is usually too rough and will tip over the tea light and probably bring lantern back to the shore.
7.3 Do I have to use floating lanterns on the water?
Yes, you don’t necessarily have to use water lanterns on the water. You can decorate the garden or use them on the edge of the swimming pool or a pond instead of candle lanterns if you prefer. Some customers have even used them as table decorations.
8.1 What are the dimensions of the long-lasting tea lights?
Candle height is 24 mm and candle diameter is 38 mm
8.2 How are long-burning tea lights different from regular tea lights?
Our long lasting tea lights can burn for maximum of 8 hours, whereas regular cheaper tea lights will only burn for 3 to 4 hours.
8.3 Will my long burning tea lights fit into a regular tea light holder?
Long burning tealights are approximately 28mm tall, which is about 10mm taller than regular tea lights. Whereas the diameter of the tea lights is the same and they would fit into a tea light holder they might stick out a little bit at the top, therefore we advise to use our long burning tea lights with votive holders, which are deeper and look just as lovely.
8.4 What colour is the tea light and the holder?
Each tea light is plain white and with its own aluminium foil holder.
8.5 Are long burning tea lights scented?
All of our tea lights are non-scented.
9.1 Are the batteries for white, gold and silver LED tea lights included?
Yes, all our LED tea lights come in a pack with batteries included.
9.2 How long do white, gold and silver LED tea lights last?
Light a Lantern LED tea lights last for up to 40 hours.
9.3 Can I replace the batteries and re-use my white, gold and silver LED tea lights?
Yes, you can buy new batteries for the tealights and replace the old ones.
9.4 What is the size of white, gold and silver LED tea lights?
Our LED tea lights are same size as regular tea lights and will therefore fit into any tea light holder.
10.1 How do I use a gift bag?
Our amazing present bags will save you lots of time on gift wrapping and will look pretty and elegant. They are very easy to use – just choose the right size, put your gift inside and tie the ribbon. Click here to watch a video.
10.2 How do I choose the right size for my present?
Small gift bags – 6.3” x 8.7” x 0.8”
Small gift bag will typically fit jewellery (earrings, bracelet, ring, necklace), iPhone or other small items.
Medium gift bags – 19.1” x 12.6” x 1.6”
Medium present bag will typically fit a standard soft cover book, fragrance or other similar sized items. These are also prefect as party bags for children.
Large gift bags – 11.4” x 17” x 2”
Large gift wrapping bag will typically fit in a large box of chocolates, a larger book, soft toy or other larger presents.
Bottle Bag – 17.5cm x 37.5cm x 7cm
Bottle bag will typically fit in a standard 75cl bottle
